Not only are these activities a ton of fun, but they encourage ecotourism in Florida. By participating in these ecofriendly activities, you are helping to support a greener earth and eliminate harmful toxins that other activities would contribute too. Here are some of our favorites that you don’t want to miss out on!

Florida Keys Paddleboarding

The Florida Keys is home to some of the best paddle adventures in the world, offering calm currents, crystal clear water and an abundance of scenery above and below the water. Not only is the water amazing, but you are almost guaranteed to see some of the most diverse wildlife this world has to offer. The Kayak Shack located off the Overseas Highway in Islamorada, is famous for its paddle rentals and on-the-water tours. This amazing property sits next to rich wildlife and a ring of small mangrove islands. Paddleboarders can expect to see an array of fish, lobster, starfish and sea turtles. This is the paddleboard destination you don’t want to miss out on!

Kayaking the Nine Mile Pond

Located in Everglades National Park, this canoe trail is a large, shallow marsh scattered with mangrove islands, saw grass and an occasional tree island. The pond offers some tight mangrove tunnels that provide a fun challenge for kayakers. What’s even better is that if you don’t own your own canoe or kayak, the Flamingo Marina located along the Nine Mile Pond offers rentals. Park officials recommend staying alongside the white PVC-pipe markers that guide you through the trail because it’s easy to get lost in all of that scenery. Some people have even spotted the pond’s huge crocodile that lounges along the shoreline. This kayak adventure is definitely a challenge and we recommend it to anyone who loves a good thrill!

Central Florida Snorkeling Spots

Central Florida provides freshwater snorkeling alternatives compared to the salty Atlantic Ocean. Snorkeling can be enjoyed almost year round here due to the temperate conditions and land-locked water that produces crystal clear, all-natural springs. One place in particular, Wekiwa Springs State Park, is home to some of the best natural springs in Florida. The river is a refreshing 72 degrees year round and consists of two spring vents. Wekiwa is known for its huge rock formations that offer snorkelers an adventure through the various caves. During the summer months, this park often reaches capacity quick, so it’s important to get there early and get your spot!

Bioluminescent Kayak Tours

Mosquito Lagoon in Titusville offers a spectacular glow of bioluminescence during the months of June through early October. This is one of six places in the world where you can experience real bioluminescence in nature! Bioluminescent plankton and comb jellies light up the waters of the lagoon as you kayak through the trails creating a must see light show like no other. Most tours range anywhere from $40 to $50 a person depending on the time of year you want to go. A Day Away Kayak Tours offers tours six days a week and is one of the top-rated places to experience the Indian River Lagoon come to life!
